Florida Boys - The Ultimate Collection
With the announcement of their retirement, The Florida Boys end 60 years of an institution loved and revered in the world of Gospel Music. Their legacy, however, lives on. New Haven Record's latest installment of the Gospel Legacy Series celebrates the contribution of the Florida Boys with "The Ultimate Collection."
The first generation of Southern Gospel quartets consisted of a variety of songbook groups created by the two big publishers of that time. Of the second generation, there were only a few that were national in scope. The Statesmen, the Blackwood Brothers, the Oak Ridge Quartet and the Florida Boys were at the top of that list.
The Florida Boys blazed trails for groups to come when they created and starred in the television hit "The Gospel Singing Jubilee" which started in the 60s and spanned 3 decades. Sunday morning TV has never been the same and Southern Gospel quartets had a new standard to reach. With toe-tapping melodies, unforgettable songs, and countless awards, the quartet has traveled across America for six decades to sold out shows. But it has been the group's commitment, devotion and professionalism that have endeared fans and peers for so many years.
The Florida Boys took the stage for the final time in the fall of 2007, but their songs and music live on.
