PRIMITIVE QUARTET - He Included Me
For 39 years, the Primitive Quartet has ministered to audiences with their unique sound and
powerful Christian messages. As they say on their website, "Our ultimate goal is to see saints
blessed and encouraged to have a closer walk with God and to help lead souls to a saving
knowledge of Jesus Christ." Their new album, "He Included Me," is traditional mountain shape
note style singing at its finest, accompanied by mandolin, banjo, fiddle, guitars and other acoustic
instruments. Unlike most groups, the Primitive Quartet plays their own music on recordings,
lending a feeling of authenticity to the songs on this album that reflects their 150 stage
performances each year.
The title song, "He Included Me," starts off the album with its upbeat message of God's salvation
for all. As with all of the songs on this project, "He Included Me" features the signature style of
the Primitive Quartet with its mountain harmonies and strong, acoustic music. "Just Look At
How He Found Me" is a mellow song with a measured arrangement. Other songs on the project
such as "Have We Mentioned Jesus To You" and "I Am Going There" share the moderate tempo.
There's plenty of variety, though, with upbeat songs like "I Know That I Know" and "Moving
Higher."
"Just Look At How He Found Me" has an interesting story behind the song. Inspired by the
discovery of a rusted out '55 Chevrolet, the song talks about how it doesn't matter the state in
which God finds us, since He can fix us up as good as new. As the song says, we may be "Full of
rust and decay, but the touch of God's hand will sure make [us] shine."
"Ye Must Be Born Again," the classic C.H. Spurgeon hymn, is recorded on this CD. Largely
instrumental, it features a heartfelt recitation over the new arrangement by the Primitive Quartet.
This project is another solid release from the Primitive Quartet. With the harmonies of their
traditional mountain shape note singing and the warm sound of their instruments, they present
messages of faith with a clarity and conviction that shines through each song on "He Included
Me."
